Seasonal health care
If you are busy then consider applying Rearguard at every 10 weeks to stop the flies laying eggs.
Bordetellosis is a disease which can now be minimized by vaccination for both dogs and cats. The vaccine, which is relatively new for cats lasts a year, and the version for dogs now also gives a whole year's immunity. Any dog or cat who socialises should be vaccinated. This includes those in multi cat or dog or mixed households and/or those going to boarding kennels or obedience classes. This is especially important, particularly if the animal is over 7 years old. Whilst bordetella is itself not life threatening, in the elderly it can increase the chances of the patient going on to develop more severe lower respiratory tract diseases such as pneumonia. Some kennels insist on animals being vaccinated. Kennel cough and bordetella vaccines are a requirement for many boarding establishments. If your dog or cat is likely to board, or goes to shows, then it would be wise to get them vaccinated. Ideally this should be done 10 days before risk. Also if you are concerned that your pet may be stressed by going to kennels please discuss it with us as there are several options which may help, without sedation! |
